Pompeii Etruscan city
It would have been the Etruscans, many centuries before the city became a Roman colony, who gave it shape as they had already done for Tarquinia, Veio and Cerveteri ………………………………………….. The findings push towards the hypothesis of an Etruscan foundation: hundreds of amphorae, vases and cruets of Etruscan shape and inscriptions, found in the excavation of the sanctuary built along the road that connected the city to the sea, re-emerged a few hundred meters from the southern walls of the city, in what is referred to as the "Fondo Iozzino” The hypothesis is that of a city founded and built over the course of a few decades by a group of people, in part perhaps also freed slaves. A community of Etruscan language and culture which, however, probably made use of "local workers" to build walls, houses and temples, influenced by the melting pot of cultures that animated the Campania region. A community, therefore, which, since its origins, has been contaminated and enriched by different influences ………………………………………….. #pompeii #etruscans
