Would the colonial Italian settlers in Mexico be considered criollos? Or was the term reserved for those of Spanish heritage?

Criollo Originally is for those of Spanish ancestry. But now you could be a Italian ancestry and be Criollo. 84%+ Euro by the Spanish caste.

I feel like terms such as Criollos and Afro-Mexicans should be for the descendants of colonial Spanish, and colonial Africans in Mexico
similar to how African American is a term for the descendants of African slaves in the USA

for me an afromexican is a descendant of the African slaves brought over to Mexico from slavery
while black mexicans can be anyone who is black and mexican, such a black foreigners who now reside in the country, to blaxicans in the USA with a black american parent

a Mexican of Haitian heritage is a black mexican, but not an Afromexican
a Mexican of colonial black mexican heritage is an Afromexican

not sure what you think

I think the same brah. I agree. For me also a Criollo means descendants of colonial Spanish. Same with Afro-mexicans a colonial african origin in Mexico.

Like a Mexican of French heritage is a white Mexican, but not a criollo Mexican.

Criollo is indeed a colonial Spanish descendant born in Mexico or any part from Hispanic-Latino America.

This Mexican actress, Silvia Navarro, is a good example of Criolla:

I see her everyday on open TV, she starts in a novela called "
Cuando me enamoro".

Classy looking woman, also hot.
