If you compared the average phenotype between these 2 crowds do they look the same or different

From a distance they look the same. Papuans are just the closest to the natives of Southeast Asia the way Andaman islanders are closest to the natives of South Asia before admixture, so all southeast Asians have some austronesian in them the way all south Asians have onge in the them, it’s just less visible the more mixed they are but you can still see it, the Filipinos still show a lot of austronesian/malayid traits, they just have less of it than the Papuan. Now according to one drop rule make of it what you will because if there are octaroons that identify as black/African origin despite looking mostly white.

Even from a distance they look different. In the second pic there are even some people who look completely east asian, that is impossible with the first pic.

Btw austronesian is not a ethnic/racial identifier, it's a linguistic one.

Btw papuans have 0% malayid as malayid is an southern mongoloid subgroup. Filipinos are 80 to 90% malayid in makeup, and like 20 to 10% sudsinid

To even claim they look similar is just preposterous.

Even with chinese admixture, they could never pass for SEAsian

while you’re right that austronesian is a linguistic group and not race but it’s basically linked to the negrito race indigenous to Southeast Asia sort of how the Dravidian linguistic group is linked to the Vedda subrace. All southeast Asians are mixed with negrito to vary extents, that’s why Filipinos/Indonesians/Malays/Thais don’t look like Japanese and Koreans

Wrong Austronesian is linked to Taiwanese Aboriginals who are not negrito. Below 5% negrito is trivial, nobody calls Spanish people as North African for their miniscule amount of moorish admixture. Filipinos, Malaysia, and Thais don't look japanese and korean because of the region they developed in, and because japanese and koreans have altaic ancestry , while Filipinos, thais, and Malaysian have southern China ancestry, not because we are drastically different races.

In the first picture they look darker which I suppose is due to papuan-like admixture
The Timorese are a racially mixed people composed of Melanesian and Proto-Malay genetic elements. In addition, in common with other former Portuguese colonies where interracial marriage was common, there is also smaller population of people of mixed Timorese and Portuguese origin, known in Portuguese as Mestiço.
