When you mentioned Afghans being portrayed as extremely pale, I can only think of Pashtuns who are said to look that way on the forums. Many northern Central Asians have pale skin but they are a mix of Caucasoid and Mongoloid.
I could say that Northern Levantines are whitewashed by West Asians, but with Southern Europeans, it is actually the other way around.

That is true, Portuguese are also darkwashed, they are considered swarthier than Spanish because they are Western Iberians.
I haven't heard of Portuguese being darkwashed because they are western Iberian, but I do hear people saying that they have the most amount of SSA admixture in Europe and crap like that
They have the most amount of NA admixture, but they are still darkwashed when compared to Spanish.
I haven't seen many Portuguese, however I seriously doubt that they are any darker or swarthier than Spaniards
And the regional differences of Portugal is probably the most exaggerated in Europe, especially considering the size of the country, they are portrayed as if their Northern region is some kind of forgotten Scottish land and the other regions being like Morocco 2.0 LOL.
Same goes for Spaniards based on what I have observed so far. Andalusia and southern regions of Spain are called Gypsy land while northern parts of the country are deemed as Celtic like or something like that

You couldn't and people don't say that in general when it comes to western Asia. Lebanese are an exception tho. There is a reason why some people think that Lebanese and northern Levantines are lighter and more Euro looking than Kurds for example. They have a wrong image of Lebanese and northern Levantines in mind. There are 2 reasons for lightwashing and darkwashing:

North Euro is a huge exaggeration but those lightest/ Euro shifted Lebanese might look western Euro like. However, you shouldn't forget the fact that such people exist in miniscule numbers. Whenever someone tries to lightwash Lebanese they use those kinds of people as references
You can see people claiming similar things to Afghans and Tajiks too, but more likely as Eastern Euro and even Northern too. Meanwhile other West Asians like Levantines and even some Southern Europeans are darkwashed because they have less steppe dna.
I cringe so hard when i see some Portuguese unironically claiming they are celts or something LMAO, i mean, they are a bit, but it is very minor lol. There are some videos with portuguese doing that and they keep comparing themselves even with Irish people.
Again, I don't agree with you about Northern Levantines being darkwashed. As I said before, the opposite is true. Besides that I agree that some southern Euros are darkwashed, for example Southern Italians, Maltese, Greek Islanders, etc. I haven't heard the argument in support of the lack of Steppe component in Northern Levantines and its influence on them being darkwashed.

It is understandable that countries like Italy or even France would have some very noticeable regional differences but on the case of Portugal the idea of having a very big regional difference is ridiculous.
