some look southern european some look german and some look levantine
wait are you nomansman ? I remember an afghan user on TA who visited Morocco.Really shows their south european heritage(wether from ancient or around middle ages) + levantine heritage(when i modelled coastal berbers with some of those old north african alike samples from south europe + andalusians and levantines, a lot of them got even 40-60% of levant/spanish mix, though theyre likely no less than 50% "local coastal african" at least)
Barely saw any of these germanic/south euro passing folks in Marrakech or Agadir
Interestingly, the genetic influence of the Near East on Libyan and Egyptian genomes is noticeable. This pattern contrasts with that found in the Maghreb (western North Africa), where that influence is more reduced and comparable to that recorded from western Europe. The observed pattern seems to disagree with conclusions from Arauna et al. (2017), who stated that all of northern Africa is mixed with the Near East.
I guess some do have more arab heritage than others. But the north morroccans i modelled did get more south european than levantine(only some got a huge amount of levant admix)wait are you nomansman ? I remember an afghan user on TA who visited Morocco.
As for european ancestry, it's well known coastal north africans do have important amount of EEF, steppe and even some WHG (I've seen some kabyle results reaching 50% of EEF for example) but that kind of ancestry is old going back to the late neolithic and the bronze age. Inland berbers like mozabites or chleuh have in comparison higher level of Iberomaurusian ancestry (a dark skinned population) and overall more SSA ancestry (which isn't necessarily recent either) and less steppe ancestry .
Overall Berbers don't have much levantine ancestry :

Abstract. Throughout the past few years, a lively debate emerged about the timing and magnitude of the human migrations between the Iberian Peninsula and tacademic.oup.com
Tbh they look pretty much north african to me but I do agree with you that sometimes they seem to produce unusual european or levantine looking individual.

But yeh, spanish alike heritage in berbers are apparently more ancient, with some having more recent spanish heritage from moors. And i guess it makes sense that berbers further away from the coast scores more iberomaurusian admix and more SSA as well + less steppe(modelled some mozabites and south morroccans myself, and that did seem to be the norm. Arab heritage did occur though)
Yeh, im nomansman
