What’s the population of Roma in Turkiye especially kurd areas?
But isn’t ethnic identity in most countries based off linguistics, if someone speaks Kurdish at home, wouldn’t they mainly identify as Kurdish and similarly if someone speak Turkish they’d identify as Turk regardless of ancestry or origin? I think you can only call them “larpers” if they present themselves as another ethnicity but don’t even speak the language at home and have no other ties such as ancestry to said group.

But if they don’t speak romani or any south Asian language and all they speak is Kurdish and grew up in Kurdish areas and follow the culture and feel a sense of belonging and loyalty to the land and people then why would they not feel Kurdish? They may not be full blood Kurds or native Kurds but in a way they’re Kurds the way Mesut Ozil is German or Zayn Malik is English.
If you grow up there speak the language natively, follow the culture, feel Chinese then yeah you’re Chinese by ethnicity but not by blood. That’s why ancestry testing companies have always maintained that they can only tell your genetic ancestry but they do not define your ethnic identity as that is much more complex and multifactorial.
Ethnicity isn’t just blood, that’s just genetic ancestry or genetic race. Ethnicity and national identity can overlap as some ethnic groups believe they’re a nation while some nationalities are multiethnic.
If someone was 1/4th romani you wouldn’t even be able to tell.
What if someone was 1/4th south Asian instead of 1/4th gypsy?
