"The Baschi(literally Basques in Italian)were an influential medieval house that reached its peak in the XV & XVI centuries. The members of this family held over the centuries numerous offices, among which we remember those of captains of the people, Knights of Malta and Rhodes, Podesta and papal generals, Venetians, etc. Some of the most illustrious characters of this house were Bindo De 'Baschi called "Pastacalda", commander of the largest Umbrian Ghibelline league who lost his life during the Battle of Orvieto in 1313 at the age of 27 and Ranuccio de ' Baschi, restorer of the infamous luster and builder of the palace currently the seat of the municipality of Baschi. It also deserves attention the list of the most important families related to the latter, namely the Aldobrandeschi, the Farnese, the Orsini, the Caetani, the Baglioni, the Alviano, the Monaldeschi and the Vitelleschi. The origins of the family are traced back to a nobleman named Ugolino, who lived towards the end of the secolo Later Frederick Barbarossa granted to his descendant, Rainier II, the diploma of Count Of The Empire. Other theories supported by the Orvieto historian Pericles Perali claim instead that the Basques descend from ancient Lombard(real germanics) families, as in the case of the Atti and the Marsciano"https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baschi_(famiglia)

The Basques were the original Lombards so the Basques dont descend from the Lombards but the other way around
