These are photos of Californios & their descendants, the pre-1848 Californios were mostly Mexican Criollos (Mexicans of full or predominantly Spanish heritage), with minorities being Afro-Mexicans, Peninsular Spaniards, Mexican Mestizos, & Indigenous Mexicans.

Today, the descendants of Californios are mixed with Non-Hispanic Whites, or Local Native American tribes, or recent Mexican immigrants.

Modern-Day Famous Descendants of the Californios:

Aaron Pico (7th generation Californio, on his father's side, also descends from Pio Pico, the last governor of Mexican California).


Sam Liccardo (descended from Californio settlers in the Bay Area, before the Mexican-American War).


Gil Cisneros (his great-grandmother was born in Los Angeles, in the early 19th century when California was still part of Mexico).


Hillary Swank (descended from Californio settlers, via her maternal grandmother).
