I have searched about the hat (Fez). Apparently it is used in many countries.
Even a part of the Spanish army in Ceuta (the regulars) uses it since it is a group that uses native people from North Africa and Spaniards

And it's outlawed in Turkey in 1925 as part of Atatürk's Reforms lol. I'm somewhat Kemalist and fan of Atatürk but he has some extreme reforms. Until a few years ago, those who wanted to cover up couldn't enter the school with hijab. (this is not in Atatürk period) I'm agnostic but it seems a bit extreme even to me. What's the difference between a fez and a hat lol. I guess he didn't want to be associated with the Middle East in any way at that time.

But when I see the situation of the country and refugee problem etc. I sometimes think that what him do is not extreme. He is a great leader.
