the stereotype about Kurds at least on the internet is a punjabi + iraqi arab mix + slight armenian
You’re chronically online and on anthropolgoy subs/boards so you think that’s what people think, that’s not even a fraction of the human population. Most people in both the west and east stereotype Kurds as some light skinned occasionally light eyed rugged looking mountain people, that’s what the stereotype is in America and in South Asia and even the Middle East from the Arabs I’ve interacted with. A few people beefing with you online doesn’t change. Imo guy in the OP fits our stereotype more.

In the west, at least in America we think they’re at the crossroads of Europe and the Middle East so probably in between Greeks, Ukrainians and levantines. They’re generally stereotyped as white Muslims like Hasan Piker and Mehmet Oz, occasionally some think they’re some swarthy Mario looking people but in a medittterenan way m.

In South Asia and I think in the middle eastern the stereotype is that Turks are white, all Pakistanis think Turks are white and you all look like Kivanc Tatuleg and Esra Bilgic, to be fair us Pakistanis think even Iranians and afghans are white but Turks are seen as European like people - when Pakistanis visit turkey they say it feels more like Europe than the Middle East or Asia, so in our view Turks are just white people, that’s what 99.99% of us think.

even i saw in twitter stupid dutch liberal politician act like turks are jihadist and kurds are progressive libertarian. but the most religious region is the southeastern anatolia along with eastern black sea and eastern anatolia lol. she said that she was surprised that a woman was killed in an honor killing in the southeast. stupid bitch, the place where honor killing is stereotyped in turkey is the southeast turkey. anyway, it happens there the most. even inspiring these series/movies.

They don’t, well at least not in America. Far right politicians like to provoke people and use outlandish stereotypes, I’m sure it’s the same in turkey with anti refugee hysteria

@KARABOĞA and yeah I agree that the international media and academics/activists like to portray kurds and other ethnic groups in other muslim countries fighting for separation as "secular" but it's a mischaracterization - during cold war some of these ethnonationaists adopted marxist ideology supported by USSR, so some of them became atheists it's the same for Baloch, Bengalis, some Afghans etc and now the same "stateless nations" portray themselves as secular to get western support but in reality they're no less religious than the usual Muslim, a lot of Americans think Kurds aren't even Muslim let alone religious or they assume they're atheists/alevis but they get surprised that Kurds are actually quite religous, all the kurdish refugees we got in America especially Tennesse are super religious - most are sunni, the men have beards, women are usually hijabi and it's not surprising cause that's the majority contrary to propaganda. Islam is still alive in kurdistan and probably more religious since these mountain people are more isolated like Dagestanis and Pashtuns.

Reminds me that an American "academic" (mole) by the name of Christine Fair was shocked when she did a study on the Baloch and found out that they were actually quite religious and conservative contrary to the narrative she was pushing earlier and was presented to her by a handful of marxist/secularist leaders in exile.
