They don't cluster together, Maltese and Sicilians, so how can you say there is hardly any genetic difference. English people, Scottish people and Irish people basically form one large cluster. And Sicilians can be divided into two genetic groups East and West Sicilians, I guess your Maghrebis are the West Sicilians who strangely enough have more North European ancestry. You see what you want to see. When I am in Malta I just see the foreigners, the British, the Germans, Indians, the Filipinos, the varous Arabs. I don't know someone is Maltese until they speak, the accent is very distinctive. All I can say is I am genetically Maltese and don't look like any folk in Malta. Sicily is a hodgpodge, they can look like anything even Maghrebis. Who knows it could be a throwback to the Elymians. But so what!
