Do they have descent from the original Californio families? They seem to be very hard to find where I live (the Bay Area) but I guess its because the population here is in constant flux.

Yep, they are the original Hispanics of California, they are descendants of the original families, mostly Mestizos, & some Criollo Spaniards.
