No, there are lots of black people playing good metal as well.

And this band was supposed to get their big break, they were supposed to go on a world tour with Kiss but then coronavirus hit so it was canceled. They put on online live shows every now and then.

There's some good metal coming out of Africa.

There are also some good white metal musicians in Africa too though, of course. But metal was actually heavily censored and in some cases, outright banned, in Apartheid South Africa and metal fans and musicians (including white metal fans/musicians) were frequently brutalized by police. Because of this history of metal being subversive to the Apartheid regime, the metal scene (as well as the punk scene) down there is very multiracial and many metal bands in South Africa have both black and white members.

Here's a multiracial metal band from Zimbabwe:

And yeah black people not liking metal is a stereotype. Actually the time I spent in Africa made me really notice how black people in North America are pigeonholed into one archetype and that’s what they are.

Like in North America, black people are just black people and they listen to rap and all this stereotype stuff, while a white person can be a metalhead, a goth, a jock, a prep, a greaseball, a redneck, etc. And black people who don’t conform to the stereotypes get a lot of grief over it, something I know from my time working as a metal concert promoter and hearing stories about what black people who are into metal had to put up with.

But in Africa, black people are free to be themselves: you have black people who are greaseballs, metalheads, goths, punks, jocks, preps, and rednecks (actually, lots of rednecks).

If you were surprised by metal being popular in Africa, actually country music is even more popular, at least in southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, etc.)

A couple videos by white South African country artists were shared but I'll show you one of the more popular black artists. It's not exclusively a white thing. Dusty Simelane (black guy) and Bok van Blerk (white guy) are the two more popular artists, I think.

I like African country. It sounds more like old North American country like Johnny Cash or Patsy Cline.
