According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, Mexico recognizes two ethno-racial categories.
In addition to the two legal ethno-racial categories, there a few other social Ethno-Racial categories.
- Indigenas (Mexicans who are over 80% Amerindian, & culturally Indigenous)
- Afromexicanos (Mexicans with visible African features, & usually at least genetically 10% Sub-Saharan African).
In addition to the two legal ethno-racial categories, there a few other social Ethno-Racial categories.
- Gueros or Rubios (Whites & Euromestizos with lighter features).
- Americanos (Non-Hispanic White Americans)
- Gitanos or "Hungaros" (Romani people).
- Chinos or Orientales (Asians)
- Indios or "Apaches" (Native Americans from the US & Canada)
- Negros (mainly African-Americans)
- Mestizos (a mix of races, especially those of mixed White & American Indian heritage)
