Is Mexican a ethnicity or just a nationality?

Mexico has many Indigenous tribes such as the Purepecha, Totonac, Huichol, Nahua, Mixtec, Zapotec, Tarahumara, Yaqui, & Maya.

It also has many Caucasoid ethnic groups such as Spaniards (the majority), many Italians, Arabs, & French, smaller amounts of Germans, Irish, Poles, Jews, Romani, etc.

It also has some Asian ethnic groups such as the Filipinos & Han Chinese.

It also has a minority of Afro-Mexicans, who are mainly triracial, zambo, & Mulatto.

So as you can see, Mexico is a melting pot of many different ethnic groups, just like the rest of the New World.

So is Mexican a ethnicity or just a nationality, or could Mexican Mestizo be considered a ethnicity in its own right, & are chicanos like myself considered Mexican?
